Public Health Ontario’s November 3 news update announces a new Hand Hygiene Program for health care organizations. It replaces the agency’s Just Clean Your Hands program.

The resources include an implementation guide alongside tools addressing staff education, workplace conditions, habit development, team problem-solving and auditing. PHO describes the program as grounded in evidence and behavioural theory.

The program supports organizations in reinforcing appropriate hand-cleaning practices, identifying obstacles in care settings and involving teams in local improvements. Its stated aim is to help organizations establish and maintain better hand hygiene.

Why it matters: For Ontario health care facility managers, this is a practical opportunity to review existing hand hygiene training and auditing against PHO’s replacement resources, particularly where workplace conditions create barriers to consistent practice.
